Global Grameen Meeting

On Saturday 7 November, many representatives from worldwide institutions, corporations, universities and foundations that are either already; in the planning stages of; or hope to become associated with Grameen gathered together in the Autostadt. The Global Grameen Meeting was the first of what will now become an annual event - an ocassion to gather together and reflect on various experiences and successes with the Grameen Social Business model.

This year's event was a great success, with Otto signing a social business joint venture, officially announcing their partnership with Grameen Lab in the construction of a textile plant in Bangladesh, which will be run as a social business. Adidas also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Grameen, indicating their intention to also develop a social business joint venture of their own with Grameen, to benefit the poorest of the poor in Bangladesh.

Representatives from Danone, Veolia and BASF were also there to tell stories of their social business successes, as well as many others from universities, who have also entered into a cooperation with Grameen.
