Y7Y is a unique Master of Arts program, which combines the academic strengths of the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) and the social business competence of the Grameen Creative Lab. Y7Y Design is aimed at making social business excellent through adequate and future- oriented design solutions.

About the Istituto Europeo di Design

Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) is an international education group in design, fashion, visual communication and management, established in 1966. It is present in Italy, Spain and Brazil, and offers undergraduate, masters and advanced training courses. Its mission is “to offer young creatives a thorough training - both theoretical and practical – and hand them the ‘Design Knowledge and Mindset’ that will accompany them throughout their lives”.

What happened so far?

Social Business Labs and D4SB Conference

In June 2010 the IED and the GCL organized a Social Business Lab at the IED campus in Barcelona, which was followed by a second Social Business Lab taking place in Milan in October 2010. This lab was taking place prior to the Design for Social Business (D4SB) conference. During the two-day conference 60 leading experts from various fields gathered in Milan from many different countries to exchange ideas and to further develop the concept of Design for Social Business.

D4SB Master Program

As part of the D4SB initiative the IED launched a Master in Design for Social Business in February 2011.. This is an eight month course with in the first year seven IED students from the campuses in Italy, Spain and Brazil who put their passion, enthusiasm and motivation into developing projects which demonstrate that it is possible to innovate and generate new products and services on a multinational scale under the constraints of sustainability and social responsibility. The graduates of this program will obtain an international understanding of the designs needed to address social needs by getting a first-hand understanding of needs “on the ground”.

As part of this Master in Design for Social Business Prof. Yunus gave a welcome message and the Grameen Creative Lab team already held four lectures on social business in Milan in March 2011.
